How to Select Linear Modules in Extreme Environments?


Industrial production and scientific research often involve complex working conditions. As a key transmission component, linear modules must be precisely matched to different environments.


Jiayi linear modules offer stable performance within a temperature range of 0–45°C and relative humidity below 85%, making them the preferred choice for electronics manufacturing, warehouse logistics, food packaging and other industries.


I. Standard Applications


Jiayi modules cover most daily workshop environments. They operate stably in electronic assembly workshops at 35–40°C in summer and mechanical workshops at 5–10°C in winter. With humidity resistance up to 85% RH, they effectively prevent component corrosion during the rainy season in southern China (75%–80% RH).


For example, in PCB sorting lines under 25±5°C and 60%–75% RH, Jiayi modules achieve accurate gripping and sorting without additional temperature or humidity control. In sauce filling workshops, their humidity adaptability reduces moisture-related failures and ensures long-term operation.


II. High-Dust Environments


For dusty applications such as mining and metal processing, Jiayi provides two solutions:

  •    Fully enclosed modules: Integrated protective covers + sealing strips block dust, making them suitable for medium to high-dust environments such as ore sorting and particle processing, with reduced maintenance requirements.

  •    Semi-enclosed modules: Can be customized with non-standard telescopic or fixed dust covers for low-dust scenarios such as wood processing, balancing cost and dust protection,Both types feature centralized lubrication channels for easy maintenance and extended service life.


III. Extreme Temperature Environments


  •    High-temperature environments (above 45°C, such as near melting furnaces or baking workshops at over 100°C) require special high-temperature modules. These use heat-resistant bearings, lubricants and anti-heat designs to avoid component deformation and meet special high-temperature operation requirements.

  •    Low-temperature environments (below 0°C, such as polar scientific research or low-temperature warehouses below -25°C) require cold-resistant modules. Special low-temperature materials, lubricants and optimized structural design compensate for material shrinkage and maintain high-precision transmission.


IV. Special Extreme Environments: Custom Dedicated Modules


  •    Strong radiation environments (nuclear research, radiotherapy equipment) require radiation-resistant modules using radiation-shielding materials and electronic components to prevent radiation damage.

  •    Vacuum environments (semiconductor lithography) require oil-free vacuum modules to avoid contamination and ensure transmission accuracy.

3 Tips to Prevent Linear Module Rust


Linear modules are increasingly widely used with the development of the automation industry. However, rust may occur during use, which shortens service life and reduces positioning accuracy. In most cases, rust is caused by improper operation.


Below are practical methods to properly use linear modules and prevent rust.


1. Environmental Control

Operate linear modules at room temperature. Avoid corrosive substances, high humidity and drastic temperature changes. Do not touch guide rails with sweaty hands. If contact occurs, apply a layer of anti-rust oil afterward. For better protection, wipe anti-rust oil on the slide table after use.


2. Material Protection

Apply anti-rust paint or other anti-corrosion coatings on the module surface to form a protective barrier against air and moisture. If possible, wipe anti-rust oil after use for enhanced protection.


3. Routine Maintenance

To maintain excellent performance, regular inspection and maintenance are essential.


  •   Apply lubricating oil to the guide rails regularly. Insufficient lubrication increases friction between steel balls and raceways, shortening service life. Choose manual or automatic forced lubrication based on operating speed and environment.

  •   Maintain the ball screw with lubricants or grease as needed.
